Frequency & Sound Healing
When I realized how important the nervous system is to overall health and happiness, I got curious. You could say I became a wellness sleuth, investigating anything and everything that helped regulate the nervous system, no matter how “woo woo” it seemed.
There’s a down side to a lot of stuff out there. Lots of stuff is very expensive, so that’s a downside. Lots of stuff takes excessive effort and time, so that’s a downside. And lots of stuff has a physical tradeoff. Many pharmaceuticals, for instance, can burden the liver, upset the microbiome of the gut, and disturb one’s circadian rhythm (to name a few). The cons should never outweigh the pros, y’all. When it comes to frequency and sound healing, I found zero downside…and they can be incorporated into your life with ease.
“Future medicine will be the medicine of frequencies.” - Albert Einstein
As the Sherlock Holmes of nervous system regulation, here are my top three discoveries:
Binaural Beats
At first, binaural beats seems like benign background noise, but they are actually strategic sounds. They are described as “an auditory illusion created by playing slightly different sound frequencies in each ear, prompting the brain to perceive a single, pulsing tone that can encourage relaxation, enhance focus, or aid sleep by stimulating specific brainwaves.” I have been playing around with binaural beats for a while and can attest they help me with focus and grounding. They do require headphones, as they don’t seem to work if played from a speaker for the whole room to hear. Binaural beats help me “lock in” (stay on task) and/or “drop in” (let go of stress). The effects are subtle but immediate. My “monkey mind” dissipates, while my sense of embodiment increases. I’ve been using, Moongate, an app that’s all about binaural beats, with total glee. It has turned my phone, which can often be a nervous system agitator, into a nervous system regulator.
528hz
For over three years now, I’ve been incorporating 528hz sound in three ways. For one, I play it in the shivasana section of all my in-person yoga classes. Two, I play it pre-class to help the room feel peaceful. And three, I play it throughout my Yoga For Manifestation classes to activate Alpha brain waves. To me, it sounds like spa music, so it pairs well with meditation, relaxation, yoga and dreaming. There are many songs and playlists at your service on Spotify and YouTube, so you’ve got access to it at your fingertips. I just googled 528hz and this came up: “528 Hz, part of the Solfeggio scale, is often referred to as the miracle tone for its claimed ability to significantly reduce stress, anxiety, and tension within minutes.” Pretty cool, right? Sound frequency has been studied extensively, so there’s plenty of scientific data backing it up. It lowers cortisol levels. (LADIES THIS IS HUGE!)
Birdsong
My husband is not thrilled with the amount of money I spend on birdseed, but I’m obsessed with attracting birds to our yard. Why? Well, I love birds, and want them to prosper, but selfishly I also want birdsong in my environment because it’s one of Mother Nature’s greatest anti-depressant. That’s right, birdsong lifts our spirits. (It’s also been shown to help flowers grow, and flowers also lift our spirits 😂). I highly recommend the free app, Merlin. It a birdsong identifier that helps clue us into the sounds of finches, sparrows and any of the birds in your neck of the woods. How do you get birdsong into your life? Go outside or open a window….birdseed is not required. How easy is that?
I’m currently creating a workout video that has 528hz music, so if you are a member of my online movement studio, Let’s Move!, be on the lookout for Miracle Tone Workout, coming August 2026.
Frequency and sound healing gets me out of bed in the morning. I mean, what a fabulous tool for your empowered wellness toolbox. Self-sought, self-administered lifestyle medicine is self-care at its best. In the words of Timothy Leary, “If you take the game of life seriously, if you take your nervous system seriously…you must turn on, tune in and drop out.” (We can do exactly this with frequency and sound, not just drugs.😉)

Such an interesting post! Binaural beats and 528 hz new to me, thanks for sharing. I struggle with sleep and am hoping to add this to my toolbox for relaxing at bedtime. Thank you!
I’ve been listening to birdsong infused relaxation music for 30+ years — as an alarm, to do morning yoga/stretches to, to dress for the day, when driving, and to wind down at the end of the day. My favorite source is Dan Gibson — he has collections called “Songbird Symphony”, “Songbirds at Sunrise”, “Songbirds at Sunset”, “Forest Piano”, and “Piano Cascades”. You can search Pandora music for Dan Gibson and will be treated to a delightful array of peaceful, calming nature-inspired music infused with birdsong, water sounds, and other utterly soothing sounds. Also an excellent background for desk work! Breathe deeply, drop your shoulders, release your jaw and enjoy!
